The sixth-grade Coastal Crew Rebels placed second last weekend at the fifth annual Holiday Hoops Classic Tournament in Jacksonville.
Rebels coach Simon Steele said it was the boys’ first AAU tournament of the season, and he was thrilled they were able to bring home a trophy.
“Through basketball, we are able to teach these young men, discipline, focus and what it means to be a team,” Steele said. “These young men were resilient and fought through adversity.”
Steele said the team is serious about its AAU tournaments this year and got an early start to the season by competing in Jacksonville. The Rebels plan summer trips to Virginia and Orlando, and while they have a solid squad the team still is looking for players.
“We are still putting the team together and will have tryouts in the near future,” Steele said.
