Seniors recognized at Long County game

Long County High School seniors who participate in cross country, band, football and cheerleading were recognized Friday night at Veterans Stadium prior to the Blue Tide football game.
The cross country runners who were recognized included Jarquez Payne, Krystal Parks and Jerren Bacon, all first-year competitors on the team.
Payne also is a member of the basketball and track teams and plans to attend college and become an athletic trainer.
In addition to running, Parks is a volunteer with the Special Olympics and a member of the student council. After she graduates, Parks plans to join the Air Force.
Bacon is the president of the Technology Student Association and plans to attend Albany State University next year.
The band seniors who were recognized included Christopher Coleman, Jazmine Collins, Ruth Francis, Kizarra Fulton, Ashley McElroy, David Stewart and Dennis Stewart.
Coleman, a first-year band member, plans to attend college and becoming a standup comic.  Collins, another first-year member, plans to attend Kiser University next year with a goal of becoming a surgical technician.
Francis, in her third year in the band, also is a member of the BETA Club. She plans to attend Mercer University to major in accounting.
Fulton has been a member of the band for two years, and she is the captain of the flag team. After graduation, Fulton plans to attend Clark-Atlanta University to major in pre-law.
McElroy has been in the band for two years and also is on the track team. After college, she plans to become a veterinarian.
David Stewart, a first-year band member, also has been a member of the football, track and basketball teams. He plans to enter the Air Force next year.
Dennis Stewart has been a member of the band for all four years of his high school career. After he graduates, he plans to attend college and major in music.
Jessica Holton was the only senior on the cheerleading team, and this was her second year on the squad. She also is the president of the student council and a Special Olympics volunteer. Next year she plans to attend college to major in psychology.
Senior football players included Brandon Adkins, Irmal Coney Jr, Victor Diaz, Miguel Hernandez, Patrick Howard, Johnnae Jones, Kwanzi Lattimore and Tyler Smith.
Adkins has been a member of the Blue Tide football team for four years and this year has been recognized twice as the Coastal Courier Player of the Week. After graduation, he plans to enter the Air Force.
Coney Jr. has been on the team for three years and also is a member of the track team. He plans to become a psychiatrist or a professional football
player.
Diaz is a first-year player for the Blue Tide. He also is  a member of the BETA Club and plans to join the Marine Corps next year.
Hernandez has been on the team for three years, and after he graduates he plans to attend college to major in anatomy, eventually becoming a physical therapist.
Howard has been on the team for three years and as a senior was named the Coastal Courier Player of the Week. After graduation, he wants to enter either the Navy or Air Force.
Jones has been on the football team for four years and also is on the basketball team. Next year, he plans to attend college and major in business.
Lattimore also has been a member of the Blue Tide for four years and he, too, was recognized this year by the Coastal Courier as a player of the week.
He plans to major in sports medicine after graduation.
The final senior recognized Friday was Tyler Smith, who has been a member of the football team for four years.
After graduating, he plans to attend Valdosta State University to major in business.
