Several Panthers, Tigers set for state Olympics

Athletes from Liberty County High School and Bradwell Institute competed in this past weekend’s track and field sectional qualifiers in Statesboro, with several earning trips to the state Olympics.
For Bradwell, Desman Martin took the crown at sectionals with a first-place leap of 45-feet, 2.75 inches in the triple jump. Also representing the Tiger boys at state will be Sterling Burns, who finished eighth in the sectionals in the discus (139-6); and Kiere Diggs, who placed seventh in the high jump (6-0).
Representing Liberty County High School at the Olympics will be Jeremy Caldwell-Fabergas, who finished fourth in the sectionals in the high jump (6-2). The Panther 4X400-meter relay team of Dajuan Harding, Rashawn Harris, Myles Philpot, Jordan Waters and Chris Williamson qualified by finishing sixth at sectionals (3 minutes, 25.71 seconds).
The boys’ state Olympics run Thursday-Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson.
In the girls division, Liberty County won two field events. Courtney Bennett won the discus event with a throw of 126-10 and finished second in the shot put at 37-9. Teammate Brianna Reece won the shot put, clearing 38-6.
Lady Tiger KeAndrea Ladson qualified for state in the high jump after finishing third, leaping 5-2.
The girls’ state meet is May 9-11 at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
