Savannah State University baseball standout Charles Trey Sikes of Hinesville has been named to the ABCA Atlantic All-Region first team and Rawlings/ABCA All-America third team as a designated hitter position.

SAVANNAH — Savannah State University baseball standout  Charles “Trey” Sikes of Hinesville has been named to the ABCA Atlantic All-Region first team and  Rawlings/ABCA All-America third team as a designated hitter position, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced on Wednesday, according to a news release from SSU.
The honors come just days after Sikes, a Liberty County High School alum, was named the New England Collegiate Baseball League player of the week ending June 15.
Sikes, who also was named to the All Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference first team, led SSU last season in batting (.368), hits (74), doubles (16), home runs (10), runs batted in (51) and slugging percentage (.607). He also scored 41 runs.
He is ranked in the top 50 nationally in slugging percentage (31st), RBIs (36th), home runs per game (43rd) and home runs (44th).
A rising junior at SSU, Sikes plays for the Valley Blue Sox summer team in Springfield, Massachusetts, as a first baseman. According to the team’s web site, as of Saturday morning, he was batting .390 in 11 games with a team-high four homers and 10 RBIs.
