Six members of the Long County High School softball team recently were named to the Region 2-AA All-Region team.
Lady Tide pitcher Harley Dawson made the first team, and outfielder Katie Estill made the second team. Infielders Sam Garcia, Taylor Poole and Caitlyn Wingate and outfielder Brittany Smiley earned honorable mention.
“I’m extremely happy for all the girls that made the all-region team,” Lady Tide head coach Brian Thomas said. “They all worked really hard in the offseason and it definitely paid off.”
Long County finished the 2013 season with a 14-13 overall record and earned a trip to the playoffs, where it lost a tough defensive game to Bryan County, which advanced to the round of 16 in the state tournament.
All of Long County’s players who were honored will return next season. Dawson, Estill, Poole and Wingate will be juniors, while Garcia, Poole and Smiley will be seniors.
Jeff Davis County shortstop Macy Coleman was named the region’s player of the year.
