A record crowd braved threatening weather Saturday to honor the life of one man while reaching out to support another young life.
The team of Joe Anderson, Andy Anderson, Allen Brown and Clifford Johnson won the annual John “Jay” Smiley Memorial golf tournament at Cherokee Rose Country club in Hinesville.
The event raised funds for local youth Micah Smiley, who is battling cancer.
John Smiley was a Liberty County Sheriff deputy who died in 2009 of a heart attack.
His family was pleased his legacy of helping others would offer Micah Smiley the funds for further treatments.
The amount collected was unavailable at press time.
