Free Physicals for Long County athletes

Free physicals will be provided to all students at Long County High School and Walker Middle School who wish to participate in any sport for the upcoming school year. The high school physicals will be for incoming freshmen and any student returning to school in the fall.  They will take place Monday April 29, immediately after school in the high school gymnasium. For a student to be eligible for a physical they will have to have all of the proper paperwork with a signature by their parent or guardian and themselves.  The forms can be obtained from the A-Hall office, the high school website, or at www.ghsa.net.  For more information, call 532-9513.

The middle school physicals will be for all athletes entering sixth, seventh and eighth grade.  The exams will start at 3 p.m. May 2. All forms and paperwork will be sent home with the students by the middle school and must be signed by a parent or guardian. For more information, call 545-2069. 

5-on-5 basketball tournament

The SNF Relay for Life Team is hosting a five-on-five five basketball tournament, dunk contest and 3-point contest at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Riceboro Youth Center. The tournament will raise money for the American Cancer Society. The entry fee is $50 per team. Checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society.  Softball team in need of equipment

The Liberty County High School Lady Panthers are in need of new and used softball gloves and bats. Anyone wishing to donate equipment can drop off the items at the school’s front office. 

LCRD introduces new program

The Liberty County Recreation Department is introducing a new fitness program. Stroller Fit Moms is a total body workout for prenatal and postpartum mothers with stroller-age children. The group meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-11 a.m. on the track at Liberty Independent Troop Park. The fee is $35 per month for unlimited classes. Participants need to bring their own strollers (plus baby or babies), water, snacks, towel/mat and 5-10 pounds set of dumbbells. YMCA T-Ball

The Liberty County YMCA is accepting registrations for the upcoming T-Ball season for ages 3-7. Registration until May 10. For more information, call 368-9622. 

Junior ABA training at YMCA

Training for future American Basketball Association players is from 1-3 p.m. Sundays at the YMCA. It is open to boys and girls ages 6-14. There is a one-time, $20 registration fee and a weekly fee of $10. For more information, call 610-3092. 

Jiu jitsu training open

Jiu jitsu training is open to participants ages 8 and older. Classes will be scheduled by appointment. For more information, call 368-2323.
