Students take to the field at Walker

Students from Walker Middle School’s 4th- and 5th-grade classes took to the field Monday to compete in the school’s annual field day competition.
There were serious events such as a 4 x 100 relay, the 100-yard dash, football throw, softball toss, kick-ball tournament and tug-of-war competition. There also were events such as a wheelbarrow race, leap-frog race, the potato-sack race, hula-hut race, flipper-race and dizzy-bat race. 
Taking home the first-place award for 4th graders was Jenny Alfirov’s class, with Lydia Simmons and Whitney Scott’s classes rounding out the top three.
The first-place award for 5th-graders went to Lora Leggett’s class, with Lisa Long’s class placing second and Anna Huerd’s class finishing third.
Other teachers with classes in the competition were Kristy Cornell, Bonnie Camp, Kim Stock, Megan Bliven-Sierra, Sandy Turner, Kristen Sapp, Jennifer Knopf, Candice Mixon, Russelle Loury, Helen Young and Jon Willis.
