Some football programs attempt to schedule easier opponents for their annual homecoming games.  That can’t be said for Long County this year as the Blue Tide take on highly ranked Appling County tonight.
The Region 2-AA Pirates (7-0) come into tonight’s game undefeated and ranked No. 9 in the state in the Associated Press Prep Poll and No. 10 in the Georgia Coaches Association Poll.
Appling County is coming off a solid 37-23 win over Tattnall County. The Pirates are averaging 30 points on offense while only allowing 12 points on defense.

Long County (0-7), on the other hand, still is looking for its first win of the season under new coach Ron Flott.
However, the Blue Tide are coming off one of their best performances of the season, a 32-26 loss to Brantley County last Friday in Nahunta.
Long County is averaging 13 points on offense while allowing 33 on defense.
In five contests, the Blue Tide are winless against the Pirates, and tonight Long County will be the underdog in front of the hometown fans.
