Long County made history Monday in Ludowici as the school’s first varsity boys’ and girls’ soccer games were played.  
The programs had successful starts as both teams posted 6-0 wins over Bryan County.
“I am excited to add another opportunity for our student-athletes. The soccer players are excited, and I think it’s great for our school to add another sports program for students to participate in,” LCHS Athletic Director Karen Swindell said. “I am a firm believer that athletics help with academics by students getting involved with something positive.”
In Monday’s first contest, the Lady Tide’s Sam Garcia dominated the game by
 scoring all three first-half goals.  In the second half, Garcia added a fourth goal, and Hannah Golden and Alyssa Anderson each put in a score. LCHS goalie Teresa Chihuahua was credited with the shutout win.
The scoring was more balanced for the Long County boys’ teams. Early on, it was the Alex Toledo Show as he notched two first-half scores.  After halftime, Alberto Nevares scored two goals, and Carlos Nevares and Tony Duenec each added one.  Goalie Adalberto Vidrio got the win.
    Long County coach Darrell Mosley praised his squads and Bryan County’s teams.
    “The girls played really well and moved the ball well inside and outside. They have been working on their communication on the field and it showed today,” he said. “Also, the Bryan County keeper played a good game and stopped a lot of shots.
    “The boys’ game was a very physical game. Bryan has a lot of good athletes, it was a very tight game in the first half, but in the second half we had good movement of the ball and finished our shots well.”
