Just two weeks ago, Bradwell Institute boys were in Springfield where the Effingham County Rebels beat the Tigers 3-2 in a Region 3-AAAAA brawl. Friday night, the Tiger boys picked apart the Rebels, 5-2, on Olvey Field.
The Lady Tigers lost 2-0, preceding the boys.
The Rebels used blunt force and physical play, trying to offset the passing game the Bradwell boys put together.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first on a penalty kick after one of the Rebels got called for a handball on a goal attempt by the Tigers. Tiger senior Robert Miller set up for the kick and knocked it in to set the tone.
The Tigers’ defense held the Rebels to a scoreless first half.
In the second half, the Tigers took a 3-0 lead after Tyler Dixson made a goal off an assist by Dayvion Dotson. A few minutes later Robert Burton scored off an assist by Darius Smith.
The Rebels got the ball into the Tigers’ third of the field and scored a goal.
Burton followed that with his second goal of the game off an assist by Sergio Ortega.
The Rebels answered with a little less than six minutes left in regulation.
Placing the nail in the coffin was Tiger Justus Hofmann. He plowed in a goal off another assist by Ortega.
The Tiger defense held the Rebels during the last three minutes of play.
It was a good victory for the Tigers. They have two games remaining in the regular season and Friday’s win brings the boys to an 8-7 overall record and a 4-7 mark in the region.
According to eurosportscoreboard.com, the Tigers will host Ware County Tuesday for their senior night game. The action starts at 5 p.m. with the girls’ game. The boys’ game will follow. On Friday the Tigers will be at Richmond Hill.
