The Bradwell Institute Tigers will host the Groves Rebels tonight at Olvey Field in the team’s final game of 2011.
Senior players, cheerleaders and marching band members will be honored at the game.
Looking to add a second win to their season total will not be an easy task for the Tigers (1-8, 1-6), who will go against a prolific Rebels squad (5-3, 3-3).
According to BI defensive coordinator DeAndre Davis, the Rebels will rely heavily on running back Juwan Johnson.
“He is very fast and deadly when he gets out in the open,” Davis said.
Johnson has 14 rushing touchdowns and has accumulated 899 yards on 108 carries.
The Rebels also have two fullbacks that can be cause for concern.
Caceem Jackson has 66 carries for 446 yards and four touchdowns and Rico Maddox rounds out the Rebels’ triple threat in rushing with 38 carries for 237 yards and a touchdown.
The Rebels have two talented quarterbacks, Benjamin Scott and Jessie Robbins.
Scott is a senior and has completed 9 of 21 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Robbins, a junior, is 23 of 41 for 286 yards and two touchdowns.
Johnson has three receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown, but if Groves decides to throw, it  likely will look to its main receiver, Thomas Fields, who has 11 receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown.
The Tigers lead the series, 8-2, and are averaging 33.8 points per game compared to the Rebels’ 24.1. Since 2001, the Tigers have outscored the Rebels, 276-141
Groves is sitting in the fourth spot of Region 3-AAAAA, but the final two games of the regular season could change that.
Currently, Camden (8-0, 6-0) has the No. 1 position in the region, followed by Windsor Forest (4-2, 4-3-1) and Benedictine (4-2, 4-4).
