On Saturday, the Walker Middle School boys’ soccer team ended its season with a second-place finish in the Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference championship.

The Wildcats took on Wayne County Middle School in the championship game and lost, 1-0.

Throughout the first half, the Ludowici team seemed to have the upper hand, attempting more shots and playing deep in the Yellow Jackets’ side for most of the period. But despite the Wildcats taking more shots, the game still was scoreless when the first half ended.

In the second half, the Wayne County team scored on a free kick to take the lead with 17:33 left in the game. The Wildcats attempted to score on several more occasions, but the final score ended up being 1-0.

"It was a hard-fought game by two equally matched teams. Both sides played hard, and it came down to a free kick that was the difference in the game," Walker Middle School coach Darrell Mosley said.

The team still considers it a great accomplishment finishing the season as the runner-up, considering the program only is in its third year.

The members of the Walker Middle School Wildcat team include Armando Toledo, Alex Toledo, Jose Sanchez, Cayetano Sanchez, Carlos Nevarez, Aron Nevarez, Alberto Nevarez, Kalope McCray, Jared Martin, Zack Lewis, Connor Gowanny, Ulises Franco, Malik Fendon, Alex Duenes, Tanner Brant, Francisco Mejia and Dequan Glover.
