Stephen Alvarez (Richmond Hill), Jacob Dill (Hinesville), Billy Kilmer (Richmond Hill) and Nathan Ward (Midway) spent their entire summer break playing baseball for the Savannah Chain Baseball 14U major class baseball travel team. This summer, Chain won the Grand Slam 14U Georgia State Championship, won the Charleston Chucktown 15U tournament, won the East Georgia Memorial Day tournament and finished 3rd in the Fletcher World Series. The team played all of their games on the road against other competitive 14U, 15U and 16U teams from all over the country. Most recently, Chain went 6-2-1 in the Fletcher World Series with their only losses 1-0 to eventual champs Goose Creek Diamond Backs and 6-3 to the Mets from Puerto Rico. For the summer, Chain 14U went 18-8-2. The team was coached by Joel Chrisler. The experience gained will further prepare the players for their upcoming fall and spring seasons. The players attribute their success to playing team baseball. The Chain squad represented Bryan County and surrounding communities fielding players from Richmond Hill High School, Memorial Day School, First Prespertarian Academy, Calvary Day School, Bulloch Academy, Jenkins High School, Claxton High School and South Effingham High School. The team would like to thank Mr. Bill Kilmer for keeping the book, Mrs. Marianne Harvey for coordinating all of the travel plans and First Bank of Coastal Georgia for their local sponsorship. Next up for the team is a double header at Middle Georgia College against the Chain 14U Columbus team which consists of several players from the Columbus Little League World Series Champions a few years ago. Fall Baseball is right around the corner. If any team and or player is interested, please contact Coach Alvarez at (912) 313-1556. The season starts mid September.
