The Long County All-Star football team won first place Nov. 17 in the Henry Ford Classic Football Tournament in Richmond Hill. Each member of the team, which consists of 9- and 10-year-olds, received a gold medal.

The All-Stars beat the Effingham County All-Stars 20-14 to earn the title.

Members of the championship team are Dalton Sanders, Dwight Coles, Hunter McPherson, Bowen Smiley, JaShuan Cochran, Anthony Olivo, Brandon Buhoveckey, Christian Bass, James Goober, Bryce Stafford, Darron Millan, Holden Riddle, Bailey Jeffers, Alex Carter, Marquis Dixon, Joshua Gordon, Matt Strickland, Jake Hester, Jonathan Elder, Elijah Monptijo and Ethan Strickland.

The team was led by assistant coaches Jason Smiley, Bill Hester and Bruce Green, and head coach Jamie Jeffers.

Jeffers accepted a trophy on his squad’s behalf.

The team moves on to the district tournament. The first game is at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3, in Ludowici.
