The Long County Blue Tide golf team recently kicked off their season and, according to head coach Marc Roe, this year the team is using new, high-tech equipment.

Roe said the team has a swing analysis software package in the new sports field house. It is designed to help the students see where they are making errors in their swings.

The Tide currently has a 2-3 record. The team lost their opening match against Brantley County High School by one stroke, 65-64, on Feb. 17.

On the same day, they also took on McIntosh County, and defeated the Bucks, 75-44.

Last Tuesday, Brantley County took on the Blue Tide in a rematch at Cherokee Country Club, and the Herons came out on top by a margin of 27 strokes.

On Thursday, the Long swingers had a double header, facing Bradwell Institute and Liberty High School.

The Blue Tide split those matches, losing to the Panthers by 12 strokes, but defeating the Tigers by 33 strokes.

Members of the ladies team are Lauren Simpson, Jennifer Arnold, Kimber Sapp, Shelby Mock, Alexis Flourney and Beth Vandervort.

The men’s team consists of Cody Adams, Ted Turner, Nick Finley, Devin Davis, Tyler Edwards, Dusty Spell, Ryan Herndon, Gary Sapp and Alex Melvin.

The Blue Tide players of the week for Feb. 16-20 were Kimber Sapp and Alex Melvin
