LUDOWICI — The Long County 9- and 10-year-old Mite Team made it all the way to the finals of the District 2-C Tournament, but came up short against Appling County Thursday.
The double elimination tournament was in Ludowici on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, so the home fans were out in abundance to support the Blue Mites.
On Tuesday the Blue lost to Pierce County 13-4 to put themselves in the hole. But on Wednesday they bounced back strong, beating Richmond Hill 10-4.
Coming into the final day of the tournament, the Blue Mites had to face Pierce County again, and they knew their backs were against the wall. But this game was different than the first as the Long County boys won the competitive game 10-7, to advance to the finals against Appling County.
In the Appling game, the visiting team was too much for the Long County boys as they lost 15-0, to finish the tournament as the District 2-C runners-up.
With the second place finish, the Blue Mites will still advance to the state tournament, along with Appling County.
The members of the Long County Team are Jerod Martin, Christian Hall, Tripp Stapleton, Trae Stapleton, Brian Lester, Tanner Brant, Deondreraee Volcy, Jeffrey Edmondson, Matt Strickland, Joshua Gordon, Logan Hyde and Ritchie Wygate.
Coaches are Nick Wells, Donnie Gordon, and Dave Stapleton
