With just two games left in the regular season, the Long County Blue Tide basketball teams welcomed in the Beach Bulldogs. On Tuesday, February 7, the Lady Blue Tide repeated their dominant performance from earlier in the year with a 58-27 rout while the boys got a huge upset win, 64-58, over the third-ranked team in the state.

The Lady Tide opened up the game in dominant fashion, going on a 9-0 run, and took a 30-12 lead at halftime.

The Tide were 3-of-5 from 3-point range in the first half.

The Lady Tide did not score in the second half until the 4:00 mark of the third quarter but they built a 20-point lead at 39-19.

Adryanna Harley led with 15 points while fellow senior Jada Young added a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. That rebound number brought her career total to 998. Imani Pouncey added 10 points as the Tide were 6-of-11 from 3.

The Lady Tide are now 16-7 and 11-4 in region play and will clinch the three seed in the region tournament with a win Friday against Liberty County.

The boys faced their third top 10 team in a row with the third-ranked Bulldogs, who were without star Shamarrie Hugie.

Behind James Brimlett’s six first-quarter points, the Tide took a 13-12 lead.

The Tide built a 22-16 lead in the second with a 9-0 run and led 31-30 at the half.

It was no different for the two teams in the third as they went back and forth for the first five minutes of the quarter. The Tide started a 7-0 run that eventually gave them a 47-37 lead going into the fourth.

The run was boosted by Keshawn Smith’s tough make on a layup at the 2:50 mark. They eventually built as much as a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs worked their way back into the game with 10-2 run to make the score 60-56 with just under a minute left. The Tide kept them off the board with some tough defense by Zion Ervin and Chris Hatfield.

The Tide move to 14-10 and 7-6 in the region with the win. Roderick Randall had 18 points, Keshawn Smith had 13 and CJ Glenn recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tide will host Liberty County in the regular season finale on Friday, February 10.  A win for the Tide would clinch the fourth seed in the region tournament.
