Long County loses at Jeff Davis

Long County’s baseball team lost 8-1 at Jeff Davis Friday.
The Blue Tide managed to keep the game close through five innings, trailing only 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth.
But the Yellow Jackets took advantage of a few key errors to win the game and eliminate any chance of the Tide making the state playoffs.
Even though the Tide lost, they showed a lot of heart taking on the current No. 2 seed in Region 2-AA. The Tide, despite several injuries, showed they have improved since their 18-0 loss to Jeff Davis earlier this season.
Ryan Simmons got the loss for Long County and Stetson Strickland was the leading hitter for the Tide, going 1-for-3 with the lone RBI for the Blue team.
“It was a tough loss, but we are pleased with the team’s progress, and proud of the guys,” assistant coach Brian Thomas said.
Long County took on the Appling County Pirates Tuesday in Ludowici, but the game was not complete in time for press.
The Blue Tide will host their final game May 1 against the Savannah Christian Red Raiders. It will be another difficult opponent for the home team, as the Raiders are currently 14-5 and only behind Pierce County in the standings.
Long County is 3-8 in the region and 4-17 overall.
