With the regular season winding down, the Long County boys basketball team picked up a big Region 2-AAA win Friday, beating Pierce County.

Playing in Ludowici, the Blue Tide came out hot going on a 10-2 run to go up early. Though the Bears played hard, it was clear from the onset that Long County had better players. The Blue Tide won handily 78-58.

The leading scores for Long County were Terry Smith with 20 points, Stephon Hugley put up 15, Henry Blair had 14 points, Christian Bass who added 12 and Ryheim Izzard who had 10.

With the win, the Blue Tide improved their overall record to 15-8 and their region mark to 5-3. Pierce County dropped to 9-12 overall and 2-6 in the region.

Saturday, Long County was back at home taking on Bryan County in a non-region contest. Results for that game were not available in time for this story.

Tuesday, the Blue Tide will play Appling County in Baxley in another big region game. The Pirates go into the game with a 4-14 overall record, 3-5 in the region.

When they played earlier this year, Long County won 70-58. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30.

Lady Tide

The Long County High School girls basketball team had the tough challenge of taking on Pierce County Friday.

Playing in Ludowici, the Lady Tide went toe-to-toe with the Lady Bears for three periods, taking a 36-36 tie into the final quarter. In the fourth, Pierce came out on a tear going on a 13-2 run to go up by eleven points.

Long County fought back to narrow the gap, but couldn’t catch Blackshear, falling to the Lady Bears 54-48.

The leading scorers for Ludowici were Anazha Kincaid, who led with 17 points, and Patra London, who had 12.

With the Region 2-AAA loss, the Lady Tide fell to 10-12 overall and 2-6 in the region. The Lady Bears improved to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in the region.

Saturday, Long County was back at home, taking on Bryan County in a non-region contest. Results from the game were not available in time for this story.

Tuesday, the Lady Tide will play region opponent Appling County in Baxley. The Lady Pirates currently have a 2-13 overall record and are still looking for their first region win, sitting at 0-8. When the teams played earlier this season, the Lady Tide won 47-31.
