Long County’s Kuchar places at state meet
Trevor Kuchar
Trevor Kuchar of the Long County Recreation Department track and field team finished second in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs and ninth in the discus throw at the 2022 Georgia Parks and Recreation state tournament, held May 6–7 in Jefferson.

As mentioned in last week’s issue of the Coastal Courier, on May 6–7, the Long County Recreation Department track and field team finished eighth overall out of 35 teams at the 2022 Georgia Parks and Recreation state tournament, held in Jefferson.

The team qualified for the state tournament after 40 athletes competed in the district tournament on April 17, where 23 of them placed among the top three.

At the state tournament, Long County’s Trevor Kuchar finished second in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs and also placed ninth in the discus throw, while Claire Wallingford placed second in javelin and second in the softball throw.

Both of these athletes were inadvertently left off the placement list in last week’s story.

Track coach Karen Higgason said Kuchar “came to every practice and tried his very hardest, even training with high schoolers just to get his time the fastest that he possibly could.”
