LUDOWICI — The Long County Blue Tide lost to the Savannah Christian Red Raiders Tuesday 4-2, dropping their third game in a row.
Playing at Raymond Fulcher Field in front of the home fans, the Tide had Stetson Strickland on the mound, as he took on Raider Nate Sisolak.
Strickland came out strong allowing only one hit, a walk and striking out two.
Long’s lead-off batter, Paul Lewandoski got on base with a solid hit between second and third, and then Shane White made a picture-perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runner to second and in scoring position.
Batting third, Blake Strickland struck out.  Lewandoski tried to steal, but was narrowly tagged out for the third out.
In the top of the second, Strickland struck out the first batter, walked the second and then struck out the third. The clean-up batter hit a solid ball to deep center. But fielder Lewandoski sent the Raiders back to the dugout.  Through two innings, Strickland gave up one hit, two walks and had struck out four.
In the bottom of the second, Bryan Wingate got the team going with a hit to right field, followed by Stetson Strickland cracking the ball between second and third, to put men on first and second.
Designated hitter, Tyler Hall tapped the intentional bunt toward first and was thrown out, but advanced the runners.  Right-fielder Stevie Harrison then managed a hit, scoring Strickland and Hall, putting the Blue up 2-0.
Harrison stole second, and Richard Johnson struck out.  Harrison then tried to steal to third, but was tagged out to end the inning.
Over the next five innings, the Blue was unable to score, but the Red Raiders put up one in the third, two in the fourth, and another in the fifth, to win the hard fought game 4-2.
The leading batters for the Blue Tide was Stevie Harrison who went 1-2. Paul Lewandoski, Shane White, Bryan Wingate and Stetson Strickland all were 1-3.  The Red Raiders big bats were Jordan Hill and Nate Sisolak, who both went 2-4. Sisolak also picked up the win, while Strickland got the loss.
Relief pitcher Britt Horne finished the game for the home team.
The loss dropped the Blue Tide (8-5) into the fifth spot in the 2-AA Region standings, tied with Charlton County (7-5), both sporting a 2-4 region record. Pierce County (13-0) still is on top at 6-0, followed by the Red Raiders (7-6) 5-1, Appling County (9-5) 4-2, and Jeff Davis County (6-6) at 3-3 in the region.
“We need to regroup, stick together, and not panic (to get back on the winning track)”, Long County head coach Brian Thomas said.
