Low Country radio kicks off game 1 marathon
Charlie Moon radio show announcer
Local radio personality and sports announcer Charlie Moon, left front, is in the Hokey Jackson Stadium press box last Friday, when the Bradwell Tigers played Dodge County.

What was supposed to be a 60-minute pregame show, turned into three hours. The Bradwell Tigers opened up the season with a 23-15 loss to Dodge County, but the craziness of the night was one for the books, with a 3-hour lightning delay. The LCR team entered the Hokey Jackson Stadium press box early Friday evening and didn’t leave until Saturday morning, as they sang “Happy Birthday” to play-by-play announcer Charlie Moon. He turned 27 – wink, wink…….

They entered for set up at 5:15 pm Friday evening. They didn’t finish postgame until 12:40 am Saturday. Both teams had to come out 3 times for warm-ups, before they did it for real, kicking off at 9:25 pm.

By the time Bradwell finally stormed out of the tunnel, LCR sideline reporter Leslie Lockhart was under the uprights (ironic, because his son Kevin, is the kicker) jumping up and down, with a white towel on his head and waving his arms.

And it was amazing that his son’s opening kick traveled exactly 67 yards.

It was ironic because Lockhart’s humorous line of “cool and breezy” 67 yards described a kick his son crushed in the previous week’s scrimmage broadcast against Jenkins.

The crew of Charlie Moon (play-by-play), Josh LaMotte (color), Leslie Lockhart (sidelines), James Wells (stats, color), Jonathan Vreeland (tech director), Daphyne McBryde (social media) will be back on air Friday at 6:30 for the Liberty County pregame show and kickoff at 7:30.
