Liberty County’s traveling baseball program, the Marauders, claimed two second-place honors at the Georgia Games Tournament May 16-17 at the Guy Minik Sports Complex in Savannah.
The 12U team placed second out of 12 teams, and the 14U squad placed second out of six teams.
According to head coach Bryon Lairamore, both teams played their first tournament game Saturday morning. He said the 12U lost the first game by one run, while the 14U team won their first challenge.
In the second game, the 14U boys were victorious once again. Lairamore said the 12U boys rebounded and sprang to life, taking their first win in the second game of the tournament.
Going 2-0 put the 14U team in the winner’s bracket.
“This game was a little tougher,” Lairamore said. “The Marauders just couldn’t get a man on base.”
The 14U team lost 3-0, giving it the second-place trophy.
The 12U squad was on the adjacent field at the same time its older counterpart was playing.
“They pulled out another win, sending them to playoff for championship game,” Lairamore said. The 12U lost its championship game May 17.
