McGowan optioned to minors by Phillies

Long County native and Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Dustin McGowan has been optioned to the organization’s Triple-A affiliate Lehigh Valley, the team announced Friday on its website.
McGowan, who was signed by Philadelphia during the offseason after being released from the Los Angeles Dodgers, went 1-1 with a 5.79 earned-run average in 10 appearances this season. He allowed 14 hits and 16 walks while striking out nine in 14 innings.
McGowan was optioned to make room for infielder Maikel Franco, who was promoted to the major-league club from Lehigh Valley.
An eight-season veteran of Major League Baseball, McGowan has a career record of 26-28 with a 4.61 ERA, according to baseball-reference.com.
