According to Land-Grant Holy Land writer Meredith Hein, former Liberty County football player Raekwon McMillan has a shot at being nominated for several distinguished football awards this year.

Hein reported that McMillan, the junior middle linebacker for the Ohio State Buckeyes, is the clearest-cut contender for the Dick Butkus Award, given to the outstanding linebacker in college and in high school.

McMillan was on the watch list last season for the award and did receive it during his high school career.
Hein also reported that McMillan is already on the watch list for the Lott IMPACT trophy, which is awarded to an outstanding defensive player.

McMillan also is a likely candidate for the Bednarik and Nagurski awards, which also recognize outstanding defensive players.

McMillan was picked as the top returning linebacker in college for 2016 by scout.com writer Franz Beard.
