Safe to say that Liberty County left its imprint on this year’s NBA’s Vegas Summer Camp, thanks to two of its native sons.
Jordan McRae, a Liberty County High School alum who played for the Philadelphia 76ers at the camp, was named to the camp’s second team Sunday, according to the team’s website. McRae, whom the Sixers traded for after he was drafted 58th overall by San Antonio in June’s NBA Draft, averaged 21 points per game — third-best in the Vegas camp — on 50 percent field-goal shooting in four games.
The 6-foot-6 guard/forward also averaged 1.75 steals and 2.5 rebounds per contest and shot 37.5 percent (6 for 16) on 3-pointers.
Ray Boyd, a digital sports producer for CBS Philly, wrote on Philadelphia.cbslocal.com that the Sixers may have gotten a steal by getting McRae.
McRae’s high-school teammate, Rion Brown, has been putting together some highlights of his own in the camp.
According to nba.com, Brown had 10 points and three steals off the bench for Charlotte in its 82-79 win over the New York Knicks on Saturday. The NBA also released a clip on YouTube of Brown going high for a two-handed alley-oop dunk from that game.
On Sunday, Brown had two points and two rebounds in Charlotte’s 83-79 loss to Houston.
In seven league games, Brown, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged 6.3 points and two rebounds in 14.6 minutes per contest while shooting 38.9 percent (7 for 18) on 3-pointers and 36.1 percent on all field-goal attempts.
