Ludowici native and Albany State University sophomore Trista Murphy earned first-team honors as a starting pitcher on the all-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team.

Last season, Murphy was named to the SIAC second team as a starting pitcher.

During the 2023 regular season, Murphy had a 3.59 earned run average and a 8-5 win/loss record. She started 12 of the 14 games she appeared in and pitched 10 complete games.

Murphy pitched 77 2/3 innings and gave up 70 hits, 40 runs, 31 earned runs and 22 walks while striking out 98 batters.

Her best game of the regular season came on March 30 when she hurled a one hitter and struck out a season-high 11 batters in a 2-0 win over Clark Atlanta University.

The former Long County High School standout also saw time at the plate where she batted .333 with a .420 slugging percentage. During the regular season, Murphy had 23 hits with 14 RBI while scoring 10 runs. She hit four doubles and one triple.

Murphy led Albany State to a 11-2 win over Miles College to open the SIAC Tournament on May 2. Murphy pitched five innings, surrendered three hits and two runs while recording a pair of strikeouts. At the plate, she went 2-for-2 with a RBI double in the bottom of the first inning and a three-run home run in the second inning.

The Golden Rams lost to Spring Hill College 3-1 later that day, which put them in the loser's bracket. Albany State stayed alive the following day, thanks to a 6-5 win over Lane College. In that contest, Murphy pitched eight innings and struck out six.

A 6-1 setback to Tuskegee University that same day knocked ASU out of the tournament as they finished the season with a 27-16 overall record and 16-6 in the SIAC.
