Liberty County standout Richard LeCounte earned a five-star ranking from 247 Sports Thursday. The bump came after LeCounte’s performance in last week’s 31-22 win over Upson-Lee in the Panthers’ first round state playoff game.

In that win, LeCounte was 6-of-11 for 93 passing yards and a touchdown, rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns, had a 47-yard reception and made 10 total tackles.

The scouting firm has the junior listed as an athlete, a position that suits the Panther who plays offense, defense and special teams. In that category, 247 Sports is calling LeCounte the No. 1 athlete in the nation for the class of 2017 prospects. He is the second overall prospect in Georgia.

Rivals has LeCounte listed as a four-star cornerback, ranked seventh overall for that position, 11th in the state and 64th in the nation.
ESPN lists LeCounte as a safety, ranking him No 1 for that spot in the state and 5th in the Southeast.

LeCounte recently tweeted his top seven possible colleges, in no specific order: Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State and Georgia Southern.

But according to an article by Dawg Nation writer Jeff Sentell, Alabama has emerged as another front-runner. That may mean LeCounte, who has said he planned to announce his decision in early December, might delay his commitment announcement.
