Liberty County running back Kris Coleman was named first-team All-State by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday.

Coleman, a junior, was one of three Panthers to earn All-State recognition in Class AAA. Picked as honorable mention were defensive lineman Tramel Walthour and linebacker Markel Johnson.

In Class AAAAA, Bradwell’s Kevin Harris earned honorable mention honors as a running back.

Panthers hold banquet

Liberty County honored football players Monday at a team banquet.

Academic awards went to senior Alec Sutton, junior Josh Swinson, sophomore Nolan Dickens and freshman Jahmere’e Council.

The JV defensive MVP was Nicholas Bennett. JV offensive MVP was L.D. Mack.

Future Panther award went to Marques Johnson.

Golden Panther Coaches Awards were presented to D’corjahe Thompson, Matthew Carter and, for special teams, Carlos Hunt.

Offensive MVP was Kris Coleman, who also earned the award for top running back. Jaleel Gilbert was named top wide receiver, Brock Pavo was the top offensive lineman and Jacob Roop was named most improved.

Defense awards included Markel Johnson, MVP; Josh Washington, top defensive back; Alvin Roberts, top linebacker, and Tramel Walthour, top defensive lineman.

The Playmaker Award went to Cleon Hamilton. The Hustle Award was presented to Russell Dandy. Traveon Freeman received the Iron Panther Award.
