Liberty’s track team had its second meet of the season against Beach High on Tuesday and ended with a first place overall finish.
According to assistant track coach Nathan Mims, both the boys and girls squads look strong. He credits a strength training program that incorporates plyometrics, weightlifting and specialty training, saying it improved the team from last year.
"It shows on the track and in the field when we compete," Mims said. "I really think we have a strong chance to win region with our boys and our girls."
Mims said they have a strong core of junior athletes on the squad and more girls competing than last year. Also, they’ve expanded to field events, giving them more scoring opportunities.
Last season, the Lady Panthers placed fifth at region. This year, Mims thinks they are the team to watch.
