Liberty County (9-3) took an early lead Friday and never looked back, and as a result are back in the state Class AAA football quarterfinals.
The Panthers, who downed Westside-Macon 21-0 to pick up their seventh straight win, will play host to Calhoun (11-1) next week.
The Panthers scored twice in the first quarter against Westside. The first touchdown came on Dionte Bowens 74-yard scoring pass to Kris Coleman, followed by Alec Sutton’s extra point. Josh Washington returned a recovered fumble 45 yards for a TD and Sutton converted the PAT to give Liberty a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Panthers’ final touchdown came courtesy of Coleman’s 3-yard run, and Sutton added the PAT.
Coleman finished with 15 carries for 125 yard and a score and two catches for 74 yards and the score. Bowens was 3 of 8 passing for 82 yards and a TD.
Markel Johnson had an interception and Alvin Roberts blocked a field goal for LCHS.
