Panthers go 1-1 at Carolina Classic

Will Richardson hit 45 points to help the Liberty County boys basketball team take a 85-58 win over Richland Northeast in game one of the Chik-fil-A Carolina Classic Tournament Wednesday night.

The Panthers fell 76-65 to Charlotte Christian in game two.

Against the Columbia, S.C., high school in game one, Richardson hit 7-of-15 3-point shots and bested his previous single game scoring in a tournament by five points.

He had eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Panther Davion Mitchell scored 17 points, was 3-for-3 at the line and hit 2-of-6 3-point shots in the win.

Panther Tyreon Freeman scored nine points, Charrell Roberts had eight, Jaalon Frazier scored four and Tramel Walthour scored two points in the win.

Richardson led scoring in game two with 23. Mitchell contributed 15 and Freeman 10 to round out the double digit scorers. The stats were reported on the tournament website.

The Panthers are currently 2-1 in region 2-AAA and 8-5 overall.

The Liberty girls and boys will host Pierce County in region games Jan. 6, beginning at 7 p.m.
