The Liberty County Panthers will take their playoff hopes on the road tonight to Savannah High’s stadium.
The Panthers, 3-4 on the year and 3-3 in Region 3-AAA, will meet the Beach Bulldogs at 7 p.m. in a pivotal region contest for both teams. The Bulldogs, 4-3 on the year and 2-3 in the region, have won their last two games, beating Groves 43-18 and Johnson 24-20.
The Panthers are coming off a tough 28-19 loss to Southeast Bulloch that propelled the Yellow Jackets to fourth place in the region, one spot ahead of the Panthers.
Liberty put up 387 yards of offense in the loss to SEB, as quarterback Jah’barri Felix had his second straight outing with at least 200 yards passing. But the Yellow Jackets rolled up 411 yards rushing against a Panthers defense that had limited its previous two opponents to a combined 18 yards on the ground.
But the Panthers had just two days between games before traveling to Brooklet to take on SEB and have more than a week in preparation for the Bulldogs.
Elijah Brown leads the Panthers in rushing with 397 yards and three Panthers – Julian Gerena, Jalen Hurd and Aaron Brown – have at least 10 receptions each. Gerena has 242 yards on a team-high 23 catches, while Hurd has a team-best 351 yards on 16 receptions. Brown has 14 catches for 253 yards.
Tyrese Alexis leads the Panthers with 77 tackles, and has six tackles for loss. Martez Mosley tops the team with seven tackles for loss.
