It’s David Samuel’s first year as Liberty’s baseball coach and so far the coach and his squad are undefeated with a 3-0 record after winning 7-3 in Savannah on Monday against Benedictine.

"This win got us to 3-0 on the season, but it was not our best effort," the coach said. "There was no emotion during the game from our side."

The coach said he thinks his players might have been a bit complacent facing a winless Benedictine squad. He said his players probably thought it would be an easy win but soon realized they were in for a challenge

"Benedictine gave us a good game from the first inning to the last out," Samuel said. "I am proud of the boys for sticking in there during the few tough spots we found ourselves in."

Panther freshman Dylan Connelly got his first varsity start on the mound, pitching 4 innings. He got 6 strikeouts, allowed 3 hits and walked 2 batters. The coach said he did a great job for his first outing.

"We’re going to focus on playing with more emotion and effort to prepare for this weekend’s region play," Samuel said of Connelly.

On Friday the squad heads to Washington County for their first region game of the season.
