Panthers storm past Beach in second half

SAVANNAH – Carlos Singleton threw four touchdown passes, and the Liberty County Panthers pulled away in the second half to beat the Beach Bulldogs 43-21 in a Region 3-AAA football game at Savannah High School.

With the win, Liberty improved to 3-6 on the year and 3-3 in the region.

The Panthers will conclude the season tonight at home against Savannah Christian. The Raiders, ranked No. 5 in the state, are coming off a 56-0 pounding of Groves.

The Raiders led 49-0 at the half. Zo Smalls had 138 yards from scrimmage, and Blaise Thomas threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns on 7-of-9 passing. The Raiders are 7-2 overall, with losses to No. Calvary Day and Marist, ranked No. 7 in Class 6A.

Smalls has rushed for 1,066 yards and 16 touchdowns. Elijah Griffin, the nation’s No. 1 junior prospect who recorded six tackles for loss and registered four sacks against Groves, has 20 tackles for a loss on the season. Junior Logan Brooking has 9.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage this season.

Beach led 14-13 before the Panthers scored late in the first half to take the lead for good. Singleton threw two TD passes to Ron Golden and another to Jaden Hurd in the second half as the Panthers widened their lead. Trey Aiello added a field goal in the second half.

Singleton finished 20-of-30 passing for a season-high 253 yards. He also ran nine times for 82 yards and a score.

Golden had two touchdowns and 82 yards on seven catches, Hurd added 50 yards on six receptions and Jeremiah Payne had 93 yards on four catches

The Panthers finished with 429 yards of offense. Desmond Brown led the defense with 10 tackles, including three sacks.
