After suffering a 29-0 loss to Wayne County last Friday in Jesup in its Region 3-AAAA opener, Liberty County gets to rest their wounds with a bye week.

It is likely, however, that the extra week away from live game play will be used to correct the mental errors that gave the Panthers more negative yardage than positive.

LCHS coach Kirk Warner has plans to make the playoffs this year and knows the Panthers can’t play Burke County in two weeks the same way it played the Yellow Jackets last Friday.

Panther quarterback Walker Franklin was 10-for-19 passing for 82 yards and had two interceptions. Jacquez Williams had three receptions for 46 yards. Gyri Durant and Richard LeCounte each had three receptions, and Chris Helvie had one. But that pretty much was the gist of the entire offense, as Liberty didn’t generate many positive yards on the ground in the loss.

Jacari Roberts was picked as the overall player for the game by Liberty’s coaching staff. He had 15 total tackles, including two for loss of yards, one sack for 7-yard loss and twice hurried the Wayne County quarterback. Tucker Lyda had nine total tackles, including three for loss of yards.

The Panthers are 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the region. Burke County, which starts region play Friday at Thomson, is 2-3, according to maxpreps.com.
