The Liberty County Panthers beat the Long County Blue Tide, 39-12, in a key Region 2-AAA meeting Friday night. They used a dominant showing in the second half to move to 3-0 in the region and guaranteeing themselves a spot in the AAA state playoffs.
The first half was much closer than expected as the Blue Tide held the Panthers to just 14 points and trailed by eight after two quarters of play. However, 25 third quarter points helped Liberty County race out to a big lead and to the dominant win.
With the loss, the Blue Tide fell to 1-4-2 overall and 0-3 in the region while the Panthers moved to 7-1 overall with a perfect mark in the region. Both teams will return to action next Friday with Long County hosting Tattnall County and Liberty County hosting Brantley County and both games being Senior Night.
