The Panthers hit the road into Bear country and came home victorious against a tall and, up until then, undefeated Burke County team.
This makes the Panthers 4-2 overall but, more importantly, 1-0 in the 3-AAA region.
“Our team played more consistent,” head coach Willie Graham said. “We led for most of the game.”
Graham said he was impressed that his team was able to stay aggressive against Burke because the Bears were physically larger.
“They were larger and looked physically stronger, yet we held them throughout most of the game,” he said.
Graham said unlike the game against Tattnall, his first team came out and played more cohesive and spread the ball well.
“We had four or five players that scored in the double digits,” he said.
“It was our first regional game and we had to play on their court, so for us it was a good win.”
The Panthers will host non-regional opponents for their next three games giving them ample opportunity to fine tune their skills at the basket and prepare for their next regional battle against Richmond Hill in the New Year.
The Panthers will tip-off the first of four home games against Wayne County on Tuesday night. The women start at 6 p.m. with the men’s game immediately following.
The Panthers take on Beach High School on Dec. 14, a game that promises to be a rematch as the men try to overcome their last loss to Beach in overtime.
The following day, the Panthers host Camden County on a Saturday afternoon before heading into their Christmas break. They play against regional Richmond Hill on Jan. 4 at home before starting a four game away series.
The score for the Lady Panthers Burke game was not available and will be posted in Wednesday’s Coastal Courier.
