FLORENCE, S.C. - Georgia Southern University jumped out to an early first round lead before rain interrupted the second round of the Raines Development Intercollegiate at The Country Club of South Carolina.
The Eagles have three holes remaining, which will continue Tuesday morning (Sept. 16) at 8 a.m., followed by the final 18 holes.
After round one, the Eagles held an 11 stroke lead over Winthrop and East Carolina, shooting a 9-under 279. Sophomore Logan Blondell (Lakeland, FL/Lakeland) shot a 4-under 68 to share the opening round lead. Spencer Fulford (Rocky Mount, N.C./Southwest Edgecomb) tied for third carding a 69.
Seniors Jordan Johnstun (Evans/LaGrange) and Drew Lethem (Camdenton, MO/Olathe East/Odessa CC) along with freshman Sean Brannan (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg Area) all shot 1-under 71, tying for ninth place.
"When you can throw out an under-par score, that means you had a pretty good round. That is probably one of the best rounds I've seen since I have been head coach, having all five guys shoot under par," said head coach Larry Mays. "The first round was just solid team play, the whole team contributed. It was a good start to the tournament and we have some good momentum heading into tomorrow (Tuesday)."
