Marcus Singletary of Hinesville has signed a letter of intent to participate in football and basketball at Tabor College for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
“Marcus Singletary brings experience, size, speed and athleticism to the Tabor football program,” coach Mike Gottsch said. “He will create that instant high level of competition with a solid group of secondary players.”
Singletary, a 6-1, 185-lb. cornerback, will transfer from Rainy River Community College in International Falls, Minn. In two seasons, he posted 88 tackles, intercepted 3 passes and blocked 1 field goal. He was a team captain for the Voyageurs football team.
Rainy River football coach Tim Myles spoke highly of Singletary, saying he will be a solid addition to the Tabor program.
“As Marcus and I engaged in conversation on his visit to Tabor, I was most impressed with his personality, and enthusiasm for life,” Myles said. “He wants to become the best he can be in all areas of his life, including pleasing God.”
As far as basketball, Tabor coach Micah Ratzlaff said Singletary is a physically strong guard who brings a great deal of experience and athleticism to the basketball team.
“With two years left to play, we will look for him to be an immediate impact at the varsity level,” Ratzlaff said. “Playing football and basketball can be very difficult, but Marcus is the caliber of athlete that I believe will make this transition well.”
Singletary, a shooting guard, was named to the Minnesota Community College Conference All-Conference team. He served as a captain for the basketball team
Singletary qualified for the dean’s list as a freshman. He has been chosen to be a graduation speaker this spring at Rainy River.
He is the son of Liston Singletary III and Deborah Porter of Hinesville.
Tabor College is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
