Six members of the Long County High School softball team last week were recognized on the All-Region 2-AA team.
Lady Tide pitcher Harley Dawson took the highest honor by being named the region’s pitcher of the year. Catcher Madalyne Flynn also was selected to the All-Region first team. Honorable-mention selections were second baseman Taylor Poole, third baseman Samantha Garcia, outfielder Katie Estill and second baseman/pitcher Caitlyn Wingate.
“I am very proud of all of these ladies,” Long County head coach Brian Thomas said. “I am especially happy for Harley Dawson being named region pitcher of the year. She was elected to that honor by all of the region coaches, so I know that means a lot to her.”
Long County had a 14-16 overall record and a trip to the state playoffs this season. According to the final MaxPreps.com AA state poll, the Lady Tide finished ranked No. 19.
“It was a great year for us, and these girls represent that,” Thomas said.
