Steele Named To SSAC All-Academic Team

MOUNT VERNON, GA -- Hinesville native Simon Steele was recently honored for his work in the classroom by the Southern States Athletic Conference.

Steele, who runs cross country at Brewton-Parker College, was named to the Barnes and Noble All-Academic Team by the conference.

According to BPC sports information director Clayton Barefield, to qualify for the all-academic team, a student-athlete must be on a varsity roster, be on the eligibility list, must be in the third or later term of full-time attendance, must have earned at least 24 hours credit and must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 on a 4.00 scale.

Steel is a business administration major.

At the 2021 SSAC Cross Country Championships, Brewton-Parker's men's team finished sixth. Steele finished 31st overall with a time of 29:36.28.

During the 2021 season, the Bradwell Institute graduate ran in six meets for the Barons. His best time came at the Georgia Southern GATA Classic on October 15 where he finished the 8k course in 29:29.5. Steele's best finish of the season came at the Albany State Willie Laster Invitational on Oct. 2 where he finished 11th out of 44 runners.
