Team roping is benefit

The NC Ranch in Long County will host a benefit team-roping competition Saturday to raise money to help Karen Wright and her son, Colby, of Wayne County.
Organizer Ruth Pittman said Wright lost her husband, Edwin, in July and then her teenage son, Chance, just three weeks ago in a car wreck. Pittman said Chance Wright had just graduated from high school in June and was planning to attend college.
“The family has just had a terrible year. Besides losing her husband and a son, Mrs. Wright lost her mother and grandmother, and Colby has lost his dad, brother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother,” Pittman said.
She said, “Colby is like one of my own kids. He has been around our family all of his life with the team-roping, and everyone just wanted to do something to help him and his mom.”
According to Pittman, the family is also having a difficult time due to the financial costs from hospital and funeral bills. Donations will be accepted.
“There is no admission, and we hope everyone will come out. You’ll have a good time, and it’s for a good cause,” Pittman said.
The NC Ranch is donating the use of its facilities and all proceeds will go to the Wrights. The ranch is on Highway 84, just outside of Ludowici. The event begins at 2 p.m.
