Three Long County ninth-graders were named to the Region 2-AA
All-Freshmen Team, and three other
underclassmen were recognized for
their play on the field and their work in the classroom. Coaches from around the region made several nominations and voted to finalize the 2-AA All-Region Team.

The selections mean the Blue Tide football team’s future could brighten a bit after the winless 2009 season.

Running back/wide receiver Josh Berry, wide receiver Luke Golden and lineman Jeffrey Hall made the All-Freshmen squad.

Hall was a starter from the beginning of the season. Berry and Golden came on late in the year, but Berry showed himself to be quick and elusive when running the ball. He also made several impressive catches. Golden often found open seams to run routes and had some of the best hands on the team.

Junior Marcus Williams was recognized with honorable mention status as a linebacker for Region 2-AA. Sophomore kicker Miguel Hernandez also received an honorable mention.

Junior lineman Caleb Bailey was recognized for his academic achievements, earning a spot on the 2-AA All-Region Academic Team.

Of course, underclassmen weren’t the only players who earned accolades. Five Blue Tide seniors were tapped as well.

Justin Boyd was selected as a wide receiver on offense for the All-Region Second Team. Omar Castro, Chris Banks, Donate Brown and Jake Durham received honorable mentions.
