The Long County High School boys basketball team defeated Tattnall County 50-36 on Tuesday and, with the win, the Blue Tide moved into the No. 3 spot in Region 2-AA. The Tide have won seven of their past 10 games and the team will try to build on that.

Long County faces a tough region opponent tonight in the Pierce County Bears. When the teams met earlier this month, the Bears won narrowly, 72-71, but since then, the Blue Tide turned the season around and won six of their last eight games. If the Tide wins tonight, they will surpass the Bears by a game and a half. Both teams are winding down their regular seasons.

The Lady Tide continued an uphill battle Tuesday with a 48-30 loss to the Lady Warriors. Tonight, the Long County girls face the Lady Bears from Pierce.

The Bears also are struggling, having lost four of their last five games, so the Blue Tide stands a chance. The Bears are averaging 36 points per game and the Lady Tide are putting up 30. On defene, Pierce is giving up 48 points while the Long girls are giving up 61.

The Blue Tide’s overall record is 8-10 and their region mark is 6-4. The Bears have a 6-5 region record and a 9-8 overall mark. The Lady Tide sits at 1-16 overall and 1-9 in the region while the Lady Bears are 4-13 overall and 3-8 in the region.

The girls game starts at 6 p.m. and the boys play at 7:30. Both games are in Ludowici.
