The Long County High School softball team’s season ended Monday with two losses to Jeff Davis High School.
The Lady Tide went into the playoffs as the fourth seed in the 2-AA Region B standings, which required the squad to travel to Hazlehurst where they took on the Yellow Jackets.
The Jackets ended the season with a 19-6 overall record and were No. 1 in the 2-AA Region A standings. They were undefeated in the region.
The Ludowici ladies stepped up their effort but in the end were no match for Jeff Davis’ firepower and pitching presence.
The Yellow Jackets won the first game 10-0 and the second game 11-0, clinching the best-of-three series and moving onto the region tournament’s second round.
Jeff Davis now faces Brantley County, which got by Tattnall County in two games, 4-3 and 6-2.
Next season, the Tide will hit the field without seniors Kimber Sapp, Kayla Mills, Kelby Manning and Shelby Mock, who will graduate in May. However, Alejandra Chihuahua, Silvia Chihuahua, Miranda Taylor, Ashley Murphy, Brittany Hall, Rachel Woodard, Audrey Hulvey, Amber Wilson, Taylor Harrison and Erica Golden will return to next year’s lineup.
