The Long County High School boys’ Blue Tide Basketball team will have a  scrimmage game this Friday, followed by an alumni game  to get ready for the upcoming season.
The boys’ varsity team will take to the court first eager to show the town, that they are ready for the upcoming season.
Last year under head coach Deshon Brock, the young team showed moments of brilliance, going as far as the Sweet Sixteen Round of the State Playoffs. This year, there won’t be any surprising anyone in the 2-AA Region as the team will be one of the favorites to compete for the title.
The team finished the    year with a 13-12 overall record, and finished second   in the region standings with a 9-4 mark.
The boys were able to score with anyone in the state and put up over 1,600 points during the year.  This year they will be looking to take the region Championship and go all the way in the state tournament.
The boys will have six seniors and six juniors on this year’s team and they will be led by Jimmy Bacon, Robert Gamble and Prince Moody.
The girls and boys first home game is scheduled for Nov. 24 when rival Wayne County come to town.  The Yellow Jackets are a 3-AAAA team and will be a good test for both teams to see where they are.
After the boys’ game concludes, the “old-timers” will dust of their Converse shoes and also take the court for the Blue/White Alumni Game.  All alumni are invited to participate, and all the proceeds from the night will go to support the basketball teams.
In addition to the basketball games, the LCHS Step Team will entertain the crowd during the break and there will be a “Kid’s Toy Give-A-Way” sometime during the night.
For more information, call coach Deshon Brock at 980-3569.
Tipoff for the first game is at 7 p.m.
