The Georgia High School Basketball AA State Tournament starts Friday, and both the Long County boys and girls basketball teams will be trying to bounce back from disappointing 2-AA Region tournaments.

The Lady Tide went into the region tournament as the No. 2 seed, obtaining a bye into the semi-finals. In the final four, the
Appling County Lady Pirates, who swept the Tide ladies during the regular season, once again defeated Long County 59-48.

After knocking off the Lady Tide, the Lady Pirates were defeated 47-40 by current region champs, Brantley County.

The Tide ladies will now travel to take on Mitchell County High School.

The Eagles bring a 16-9 overall record into the state tourney, while the Lady Tide bring in a 15-10 overall record

The game is in Camilla at 6 p.m. Friday.

Tide

The Blue Tide went into last week’s region tournament as the No. 1 seed, looking to defend their 2009 title. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get past Appling County High School in the final four of region play.

Although they defeated the Pirates both times during the regular season, in the region tournament, the Appling boys defeated the Blue Tide 78-71.

The Pirates’ luck ran out in the finals though, as McIntosh County defeated them, 62-53, in overtime to take home the 2-AA Region title.

The Blue Tide will now travel to take on Early County High School. The Bobcats bring an 18-10 overall record into the state tournament while the Blue Tide’s record stands at 19-6.

The game is Saturday in Blakely.
