Tide teams set to host playoff games this week
4 Lady Tide Prepare for soccer playoffs
The Long County girls soccer team has qualified for the state tournament for the second straight season.

The Long County High School soccer teams wrapped up their regular seasons Monday with wins over Groves in Garden City.
With the wins, the Blue Tide and Lady Tide each finished as the No. 2 teams in their divisions in Region 2-AA and secured a playoff home game.
In early action Monday, the Lady Tide beat the Lady Rebels 10-0 with Megan Higgason putting in four goals and Nakia Hunter and Courtney McNeal each scoring three. Long County moved to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the region.
“It feels good to make the playoffs again this year, especially since we will be hosting a game in the first round of the state tournament,” Lady Tide head coach Brian Todd said.
In Monday’s late game, the Blue Tide beat the Rebels 5-0 with Malik Fadon scoring twice, and Alberto Nervarez, Armondo Orozco and Keith Anderson each putting in one score.
Long County finished the regular season with a
9-3 overall record and
7-1 mark in the region.
Boys’ coach Paul Austin also was proud of his team making the state tournament.
“I couldn’t be happier. It is great to be a runner-up in the region play. My guys have worked hard all year and it has paid off,” he said.
According to the MaxPreps.com’s AA state rankings, the Lady Tide are No. 9 and the Blue Tide are No. 11.
The Lady Tide will host Thomasville at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Ludowici.
The Blue Tide will host Fitzgerald on Friday; game time will be announced.
